Lip Lift

20’s and older; shortens a long upper lip, improves tooth-show when smiling, corrects aging lip, improves lip fullness

Lip Lift Facial Plastic Surgery Beverly Hills 1

Whether inherited or due to aging and gravity, an elongated and/or thin upper lip can be improved with a lip lift. Individuals with an elongated upper lip often lack an appropriate amount of tooth-show when they smile, and those with a thin upper lip often desire more visibility of the pink lip tissue.

The lip lift procedure shortens the upper lip and allows the pink portion of the lip as well as your upper teeth to be more visible giving you the ability to better show off your smile.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A LIP LIFT?

  • Elongated upper lip (from the top of the pink portion of the lip to the bottom of the nose)

  • Thin upper lip (pink portion)

  • Minimal tooth show with smiling

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR INITIAL CONSULTATION:

Dr. Champagne will review your medical history and perform a physical exam. Be prepared to answer questions about current and past medical conditions. Talk about any medications you are currently taking or have taken recently, as well as any surgeries you have had. It is extremely important to tell us if you are allergic to any medications. To determine your treatment options and candidacy for a lip lift, Dr. Champagne will examine and measure areas of your face with your mouth open and closed and while smiling. In addition, you will take photographs for your medical record. During your consultation, Dr. Champagne will discuss with you your reasons for wanting a lip lift and what your expectations are in terms of appearance after the procedure.

PREPARING FOR A LIP LIFT:

Depending on your age and general health, certain preoperative tests may be necessary. We will discuss these with you and be sure that they are performed prior to undergoing your procedure. If you are a smoker, Dr. Champagne will recommend that you stop smoking both before your procedure and during your recovery period as smoking decreases blood flow in the skin and can slow the healing process. In addition, smoking increases the risk of tissue damage. By stopping smoking, you will improve your ability to heal and optimize your postoperative results. If you need help quitting smoking, we will be happy to assist you. Certain medications will need to be avoided both before and after your procedure such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements, which can increase bleeding. We will provide you with a list of all medications to be avoided. A lip lift is performed in our office’s procedure room. For your comfort, Dr. Champagne will provide you with medications to help you relax and minimize pain. On the day of your procedure, you should make plans for someone to bring you to and from our office.

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY?

As a standalone procedure, a lip lift is performed in our office. Dr. Champagne creates a small, well hidden incision placed just below the nose in the natural curvature where the nostrils meet the upper lip. No bandages are necessary, and care for the incision site requires only antibacterial ointment while the sutures are in place. Swelling is minimal, bruising is extremely rare, and small sutures are removed after seven days. Mineral makeup can then be used to camouflage any remaining discoloration while it continues to resolve.

OTHER BENEFICIAL PROCEDURES:

Those patients who undergo a lip lift may also benefit from injections of a lip filler such as Restylane.
