20’s and older; gives you more of your own hair in areas of hair loss, grow your own hair

Hair Transplant Facial Plastic Surgery Beverly Hills 1

Dr. Champagne is an expert hair restoration surgeon who has published peer reviewed book chapters on hairline lowering and hair transplantation, continually staying up to date on the latest technologies in the field. Unlike many other surgeons who will only offer hair transplantation for hair loss, Dr. Champagne will provide you with an entire treatment plan including PRP, laser technology and oral medication to allow you to achieve optimal results. Also, recent anecdotal evidence has shown an improvement in hair growth and thickness when Botox is injected into the thin muscles surrounding the scalp. In theory, by relaxing these muscles, there is improved blood flow throughout the scalp which creates an environment of increased oxygen and nutrient levels surrounding the hair follicles or root of the hair. Dr. Champagne will meet with you during your consultation and help decide which treatment combinations are best for you to achieve optimal results.

Whether you are male or female, hair loss can be a source of great concern and anxiety in social situations. During your consultation, Dr. Champagne listens to your goals and takes great care to plan and design with you the area in which your own hair will be transferred. There are a great variety of balding patterns, hair textures, densities, colors, and scalp laxity, all of which are factors that involve certain modifications in an individual plan to obtain an optimal result. Through techniques known as Follicular Unit Transfer (FUT) and/or Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) which move individual hair follicles from an area of greater density on the back of the scalp to areas that have thinned over time, Dr. Champagne is able to achieve a look that gives your hair improved thickness while appearing completely natural. If you are looking to correct thin, patchy or absent facial hair, Dr. Champagne also performs hair transplantation to the eyebrows, mustache and beard area.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR HAIR TRANSPLANTATION?

  • Men or women

  • Gradual, hereditary hair loss

  • Traumatic hair loss

  • Hair loss not due to a medical condition

  • Realistic goals and expectations

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR INITIAL CONSULTATION:

Dr. Champagne will review your medical history and perform a physical exam. Be prepared to answer questions about current and past medical conditions. Talk about any medications you are currently taking or have taken recently, as well as any surgeries you have had. It is extremely important to tell us if you are allergic to any medications. To determine your treatment options and candidacy for hair transplantation, Dr. Champagne will examine and measure areas of your scalp to determine quality, density and texture of your hair as well as the number of grafts that will be required for desirable results. In addition, you will take photographs for your medical record. During your consultation, Dr. Champagne will discuss with you your reasons for wanting hair transplantation and what your expectations are in terms of appearance after the procedure. In addition, Dr. Champagne will review your history of hair loss as well as hair loss patterns in your family. You will also be able to view approved before and after photos of Dr. Champagne’s patients.

PREPARING FOR HAIR TRANSPLANTATION:

Depending on your age and general health, certain preoperative tests may be necessary. We will discuss these with you and be sure that they are performed prior to undergoing surgery. If you are a smoker, Dr. Champagne will recommend that you stop smoking both before surgery and during your recovery period as smoking decreases blood flow in the skin and can slow the healing process. In addition, smoking increases the risk of tissue damage. By stopping smoking, you will improve your ability to heal and optimize your postoperative results. If you need help quitting smoking, we will be happy to assist you. Certain medications will need to be avoided both before and after surgery such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements, which can increase bleeding. We will provide you with a list of all medications to be avoided. For the day of surgery, you should also make plans for someone to bring you to and from our office and stay with you at least the first night afterwards. If a caregiver is not available, or if you prefer to recover in privacy, our office staff will be happy to schedule postoperative care for you with our world-class postoperative care facility.

HAIR TRANSPLANTATION Q & A

Q: Does Dr. Champagne perform Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)?

During your consultation he will help decide which treatment would be best to meet your goals.

Q: Do you charge by the procedure, by the follicular unit, or by the follicle?
A: Dr. Champagne will customize your treatment, and your hair transplant procedure will be quoted per graft aka follicular unit.

Q: What’s the downtime for Hair Transplantation?
A: The downtime is typically extremely minimal (on average 1-2 days) without any bruising or swelling. For example patients from out of town usually fly home the very next day.

Q: When will I see results / my hair grown in?
A: With hair transplantation alone, patients typically start to see hair growth 3-4 months after their procedure, but Dr. Champagne customizes treatment plans with the latest techniques like PRP (platelet rich plasma), laser technology and oral medication to significantly improve and speed up your growth process.

Q: What is platelet rich plasma?
A: Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP, is a concentrated form of platelets within serum that is taken from a patient’s blood. This concentrated serum rich in platelets includes multiple forms of growth factors and other biological particles that stimulate the tissue healing process . PRP has been used for several decades to help promote tissue repair and growth, and this is the basis for its use in hair restoration. PRP when injected directly into the scalp can help to improve both the growth of hair follicles as well as the healing process after a hair restoration procedure. Expert hair restoration surgeon, Dr. Jason Champagne, combines PRP along with hair transplantation, laser technology and oral medications to provide patients the best options for optimum hair growth results.

Q: What type of anesthesia will you use?
A: Hair transplantation is an in-office procedure, and Dr. Champagne is able to keep you very comfortable with the use of medications. (most patients sleep through the procedure!)

Q: When can I wear a hat?
A: Patients can wear a loose hat the day of surgery.

Q: When are the follicles secure (can’t pop out)?
A: After transplantation, hair follicles are firmly secure within 4-5 days following your procedure.

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY?

Downtime following hair transplantation is minimal. In many instances, patients can return to normal light activities and even work after a day or two. Care of the transplantation sites requires only a light spray of saline solution every hour while awake for the first few days to keep the area moist. Through the normal hair cycle, new hairs begin to grow and are visible after 3 to 4 months following transplantation.
