Hairline Lowering (Forehead Reduction) Procedure

The Day After Surgery

Recovery can be one of the top concerns of patients seeking a hairline lowering procedure, commonly referred to as a forehead reduction surgery or hairline advancement. Depending on the individual, in general, recovery can be anywhere from 6 to 10 days, however, many patients are healed enough to go back to work after 24 to 48 hours. There will be a stitch line in place for 6 to 7 days at which point Dr. Champagne will remove the sutures, so many patients wear a scarf or large hat to cover and protect the hairline until the area has had further time to heal.

After a forehead reduction/hairline lowering procedure, there can be minimal to moderate swelling in the forehead and scalp, and sometimes around the eye or cheek area. Most swelling diminishes over the first several days and is completely resolved within the first couple of weeks after surgery.

Also, many patients experience no to very minimal post-operative pain but rather feel a slight tightness near the sides of the hairline. Mild bruising, although rare, can also occur around the eyes, but this is normal and does not interfere with vision. Numbness or reduced sensation should be expected around and just behind the hairline. This is temporary and is expected to resolve within the first few weeks to months.
