Thank you so much for doing this with us! Before we dive in, our readers would love to learn a bit more about you. Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
Let me take you back to a significant moment in my life. At the age of seven, I was hospitalized for a couple of weeks due to a severe illness. Fortunately, I made a full recovery. Throughout my stay, I had the privilege of being under the care of several talented doctors. It was during that transformative experience that I realized my deep desire to become a physician. As time passed, my passion for art, creativity, and the hands-on aspect of building and fixing things continued to flourish. These passions ultimately guided me towards my current specialty in facial plastic surgery and hair restoration.
Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you began your career?
Allow me to recount an extraordinary incident from a few years ago. It was a typical day at my office when I glanced at my schedule and noticed the name of an individual that left me in awe. This person, who had been a renowned figure in the early ’90s and served as an idol for many, was seeking my consultation. With excitement and anticipation, I met this individual for the consultation, and I must say, they were incredibly kind and gracious. The consultation went exceptionally well, and as I walked out afterwards, I couldn’t help but reflect on the surreal nature of the situation. If I had the ability to travel back in time and inform my 15-year-old self that I would one day meet and assist this person, I doubt my younger self would have believed it. The whole experience was both captivating and intriguing, highlighting the unpredictable and fascinating aspects of life’s journey.
Are you able to identify a “tipping point” in your career when you started to see success? Did you start doing anything different? Are there takeaways or lessons that others can learn from that?
When reflecting on my career, I find it difficult to pinpoint a specific tipping point that marked the onset of success. Instead, I believe my journey has been characterized by a gradual and steady progression towards achieving my goals. However, throughout this journey, one aspect has remained paramount: a commitment to continuous learning, embracing new ideas, and staying abreast of the latest advancements in my field. This unwavering dedication to personal and professional growth has undoubtedly played a pivotal role in my achievements. If there’s one valuable lesson I could offer to others, it would be to maintain consistency in your pursuits, remain receptive to fresh perspectives, and nurture a mindset of lifelong learning. By doing so, you can foster continuous improvement and growth over time.
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person to whom you are grateful who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?
During my college years, I worked as a server at a local restaurant, and there was this remarkable older couple who became regular patrons. I had the pleasure of waiting on them several times, and they began specifically requesting my service whenever they visited. Approximately a year later, as I neared the end of my college journey, we engaged in a conversation about my aspirations for the future. It was during this discussion that I shared my ambition to pursue medical school, acknowledging the challenges posed by the highly competitive applicant pool. Unexpectedly, the gentleman offered to write a letter of recommendation for me, completely out of the blue. He encouraged me to share my grades and resume with him, assuring me that he would thoroughly review them and gladly provide a letter of recommendation. To this day, I like to believe that his letter played a significant role in setting me apart from other applicants, ultimately facilitating my acceptance into medical school and setting me on the path that led me to where I am today. For this incredible act of generosity, I will be forever grateful.
Ok super. Let’s now shift to the main part of our discussion. The global beauty industry today has grown to more than a half a trillion dollar business. Can you tell us about the innovations that you are bringing to the industry? How do you think that will help people?
The signature Champagne Brows® procedure, which I have developed, has been immensely beneficial for numerous patients. This innovative technique involves extracting hair from the donor area, typically located at the back of the scalp, and meticulously transplanting each hair into the eyebrows. The goal is to provide my patients with fuller and more well-defined eyebrows. What sets this procedure apart is its permanent nature, as the transplanted hair establishes itself and grows naturally in the eyebrow region.
By opting for Champagne Brows®, patients can avoid the potential drawbacks of microblading and tattooing, such as fading and an unnatural appearance. Unlike these methods, where pigment is applied to the skin in a two-dimensional manner, our procedure creates a three-dimensional effect by utilizing the individual’s own hair. This results in a more authentic and lifelike appearance, as the transplanted hair blends seamlessly with the existing eyebrow hair, offering a truly natural look.
Can you share 3 things that most excite you about the modern beauty industry?
Firstly, there has been a remarkable increase in the accessibility of information regarding self-care and the significance of maintaining one’s health and appearance. This greater awareness has led more people to prioritize aspects such as skincare and overall well-being, enabling them to better pursue their individual beauty goals.
Secondly, I have observed a growing trend among younger individuals who are proactively seeking self-care practices, particularly in terms of skincare. They understand the importance of early preventive measures, such as using sunscreen and minimizing sun exposure, as they recognize the detrimental effects of UV rays on the aging process and the potential risks of skin cancer. This heightened awareness at a young age fosters a more long-term and proactive approach to maintaining healthy skin.
Thirdly, one crucial factor contributing to these developments is the increased accessibility and availability of beauty products. Nowadays, a broader range of individuals can find beauty products tailored to their specific needs, including diverse skin tones. This inclusivity extends to various treatments, such as laser procedures, where advancements in technology have made it possible to accommodate a wider spectrum of skin tones, unlike in the past.
Overall, the convergence of widespread access to information, the emphasis on early preventive care, and the expanding availability of beauty products has fostered a positive shift in people’s attitudes towards self-care and beauty, promoting a more holistic approach to personal well-being.
Can you share 3 things that most concern you about the industry? If you had the ability to implement 3 ways to improve the industry, what would you suggest?
One major concern I have regarding the industry is the proliferation of med spas. There has been a significant rise in the number of med spas offering trendy treatments that have gained popularity. However, I have witnessed the negative consequences of such practices, with patients experiencing scarring or complications. This widespread availability of treatments without proper oversight and expertise raises serious concerns about patient safety and well-being.
Another concern is the impact of social media on the industry. People now have unprecedented exposure to various procedures and rapidly changing beauty trends. The problem arises when procedures, like buccal fat excision, become highly popularized, leading individuals to seek them without proper consideration of their suitability. Social media can inadvertently promote unrealistic expectations and encourage people to desire procedures that may not be suitable or necessary for them.
The third concern I have relates to the use of image-editing software, such as Facetune. With the ability to easily manipulate one’s appearance, individuals can create unrealistic expectations for themselves and others. Patients often come in desiring to look like edited images they have seen, unaware that the results are unattainable in reality. This reliance on software to alter appearances can lead to disappointment and dissatisfaction when actual procedures cannot replicate the edited images.
In conclusion, the popularization of med spas without proper oversight, the influence of social media on unrealistic beauty standards, and the use of image-editing software all raise significant concerns within the industry. It is crucial to prioritize patient safety, promote realistic expectations, and ensure that individuals are well-informed about the limitations and potential risks associated with different treatments and procedures.
You are an expert about beauty. Can you share a few ideas that anyone can use “to feel beautiful”?
Firstly, always strive to present your best self. Taking care of your appearance and grooming can contribute significantly to feeling beautiful. This includes maintaining good hygiene, dressing in a way that makes you feel confident, and practicing good posture.
Secondly, if there are specific aspects that bother you about your appearance, consider seeking a professional consultation. Whether it’s a feature you believe could be improved or a concern you have, discussing it with a qualified professional can provide valuable insights and potential solutions. This step can empower you to make informed decisions about any desired changes and take action towards feeling more confident in your own skin.
Thirdly, there are simple self-care practices you can incorporate into your routine to enhance your natural beauty. Staying hydrated by drinking an adequate amount of water can improve the health and vitality of your skin. Additionally, using an under-eye cream can help reduce puffiness and dark circles, contributing to a brighter and more refreshed look. Lastly, keeping your lips moisturized with a good lip balm can maintain their health and appearance.
By embracing these suggestions and making conscious efforts to take care of yourself physically, addressing specific concerns when necessary, and incorporating simple self-care practices, you can enhance your overall sense of beauty and well-being. Remember, feeling beautiful starts from within and is reflected in how you present yourself to the world.
Here is the main question for our discussion. Based on your experience and success, Can you please share “Five Things You Need To Know To Succeed In The Modern Beauty Industry”. Please share a story or an example, for each.
To thrive in the modern beauty industry, here are five essential factors to keep in mind:
Stay true to yourself and your beliefs: It’s crucial to remain grounded in your expertise and values, so you don’t get swayed by fleeting trends. This applies specifically to the field of facial plastic surgery, where adhering to your knowledge and principles ensures consistent and reliable results for your patients.
Embrace skill and artistry: In a highly competitive industry, honing your skills and cultivating your artistic abilities are paramount. These qualities allow you to set yourself apart from others and deliver exceptional outcomes that clients seek.
Develop a specialized skill set: Focusing on a specific area of expertise can give you a distinct advantage. For instance, as a facial plastic surgeon, specializing in procedures for the face, neck, and scalp enables you to refine your expertise in these areas, providing a higher level of proficiency and customer satisfaction.
Build a network of skilled professionals: Establishing a network of exceptional practitioners in related fields is essential. Collaborating with individuals who consistently deliver outstanding results allows you to confidently refer your patients for complementary treatments, such as cosmetic dentistry, knowing they will receive top-notch care.
Provide thorough recommendations and treatment plans: Going beyond your core area of expertise, consider the holistic needs of your patients. Take into account their overall appearance, including factors like hair, teeth, and more, when creating comprehensive treatment plans. Offering thorough and thoughtful recommendations enhances the overall beauty experience for your clients.
By incorporating these five principles — staying true to yourself, emphasizing skill and artistry, specializing in a specific area, cultivating a network of exceptional professionals, and providing comprehensive recommendations — you can position yourself for success in the modern beauty industry.
Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?
I believe that one key lesson I’ve learned is that patience is truly a virtue. It can be tempting to desire immediate results, but, in reality, true success rarely comes overnight. Personally, I have found that dedicating time, effort, and energy to continually improve myself has allowed me to shape my own future. I strongly believe that anyone who adopts this mindset and consistently works towards their goals can achieve great things, regardless of what those goals may be.
